yeh i was looking at a schecter omen or damian coz the difference for the 7 string is only another $20 when buying from the US

Try second hand as well mate; the nature of 7 strings sometimes leads people to buy, rarely play then try to flog off when they want to go back to a 6.

I have fun haunting the music listings on any number of websites waiting for rich kids to post up quality gear for quick cash :)

Just picked up an Egnater Rebel 20 head + 112 XL cab - have only put an hour on it thus far but very impressed.

The tube mix is a great idea; getting some brilliant warm tones out of the 6v6s and the el84s provide their usual chimey charm.

Can't wait to spend a little more time with it; will throw a few picks up eventually.

I played one when looking at amps, fkn nice amp!

I dont like blackstar at all, would have gone a marshall over one, Mesa's are f**king nice.

Mesa is great but perhaps a little over priced - it does however have one of the most recorded distortions in the last 20 years! They did create the cascading gain circuit but I have to admit I'm more of a tube overdrive guy than flat out gain player (old age creeping in).

got any recommendations on practice amps like up to 40watts? looking for something with big fat distortion. love the sound of the mesa rectifiers. i know solid states are cheaper and they're all ive played on in the past but ppl say that a tube amp has more presense and even if the wattage is lower it will sound heaps thicker and play all over a solid.

Depends on the budget...for cheap and versatile I'd go line 6 spider 30 or Roland cube 30x or orange dual terror combo for a little more dough, and all tube goodness

What sort of volumes are you looking for here? 40w all tube is bloody loud, could easily so a small gig with an aggressive drummer. Solid-state is a lot more reserved; I think my 20w Egnater is much louder that my old 100w Laney solid state...!

For bedroom volumes you might be better off looking at 5w all tube (BlackStar HT5?) or the Marshall Class 5 - as mentioned above it comes down to budget.

Mesa Express 5:25 will set you back $2300odd, the 5:50 a little more ($3100 for memory). Both great amps but there are a lot of alternatives! If you are budgeting for Mesa territory check out the Soldano Astroverb 16w head & cab; not a lot of documentation around but it's from Soldano so you know it's awesome.

Best bet is to chuck a guitar & lead in the boot, every time you cruise past a music outlet and you have a few minutes get in there and crank it!

those prices u listed r way out of my range. i dont want to play gigs, just a bedroom hack haha. Probably $500 is my limit, i know its not much but i dont want to buy a Piece of shit. I have played on a roland cube 30 before and i liked the distortion it had, just looking for others to try.

In that price range I don't think you will find anything better than a cube (new). However, do yourself a favor and check out gumtree/eBay etc - keep an eye out for an old Marshall tube combo or something similar! Second option would be to get a Cube 20x (plenty loud enough for bedroom) and get a high quality tube distortion pedal!

I play a Jackson RR24, swapped out the floyd to a real german OFR.
Amp is a Ceriatone Marshall JCM800 2203 100w clone which I built for my Design Tech final project in year twelve.
Cabinet I built is just a single Celestion G12K-100, got the speaker almost new off ebay for 70$.

Do you 'gig that rig' or is it a bedroom setup?

800's are awesome but they really don't get into stride unless they are dimed.

THD Hot plate will fix that. I found my old 50W 800 had to be on 6.5-7.5 on the master to sound good. That was still too loud for 99% of scenarios! Hot plate came in real handy

Anyone tried the new Marshall AFD100 Head yet? Just got one in at work and it's pretty damn good. Rather tempted me thinks!

Apparently the new Yngwie Malmsteen signature head decimates all - modeled off of a 59' Plexi then hot rodded to the max

would also require a good attenuator

I still have my ESP LTD MH400 for sale for $1000 if anybody is interested. I just want it gone as I need the cash.
Perfect condition, and just had new strings put on it.

Does anyone know if i will have to pay import duty for an electric guitar? i bought a schecter omen extreme from usa 3 weeks ago and the seller told me that i wouldnt pay taxes as its under $1000. i think Stupid customs or UPS sent the guitar back to usa. i was tracking it on UPS and because there was "a lack of description of merchandise" it was sent back. So frustrating. i mean what more do u need to know? its a guitar made of wood and has steel strings.

^ that's correct but UPS are notorious for returning packages that don't have sufficient labeling... It's not your fault, don't let your eBay seller try and charge you again.

i called ups the other day and they said they didnt send it back but customs wont release it. they wanted my invoice for the purchase and not the version the store attached to the box and an explanation of how it was paid for. i got it from a store in Ohio through ebay. faxed the paypal invoice today so i hope its all good.

Started getting back into my guitar, I'm so shit, it's just a washburn starter that only set me back about $500 4 years ago, if I can practice enough and I feel worthy I've always wanted a fender strat

^ Just do it; if you wait until you are 'worthy' you will get bored.

I'm investigating a 62' American vintage reissue Strat at the moment, have a bad case of GAS and haven't has a strat in ages

At least with Fender you will get some consistency; looking for a good LP these days takes a whole lot of sifting through shit to find a diamond.

Looking forward to posting up a new gear day picture shortly :)
